Newsletter August 2026: The First Agentic Q4 Is Coming
Hi,
AI-driven orders flowing through Shopify tripled year over year. Shopify mentioned this on their earnings call this week, supported by real numbers. That makes this coming holiday season the first agentic Q4. The buying season you have been planning for humans will also be shopped by agents, at meaningful volume, for the first time.
Tamir here from 40rty. This is not a mass email. It is a direct line from our product team detailing what is happening in agentic commerce and how we help operators take action before Q4 planning locks. Inside: 2 ecosystem updates + 1 big product release from us.
1) Shopify's Q2 earnings put hard numbers on the momentum of agentic commerce
Shopify reported Q2 on Tuesday: GMV up 32% to $116B, revenue up 34% to $3.7B. But the agentic numbers tell the story for operators.

The operator translation: agentic traffic is no longer a rounding error, and it is not just for the biggest categories. The long tail is where agents are converting.

You can easily track AI-referred traffic and order attribution.
2) New research: product feeds beat crawled pages on shopping recommendations
Research: The ChatGPT Shopping Deep Dive
Profound analyzed 548 million ChatGPT shopping offers over 8 months, plus a deep dive into roughly 1 million top and bottom ranked offers. The numbers make the case for feeds better than any argument could:
- Products sourced from a structured product feed appear as the FIRST offer ~99.9% of the time. Crawled product pages get scattered across the ranking.
- Feed-sourced retrievals grew from 4.3% to roughly 20% of all ChatGPT shopping retrievals between late November and June. That share is compounding every month.
- Crawled PDPs still supply about 88% of offers today, but they are fighting over the leftover positions while feeds take the top slot.
And who dominates the feed side? Shopify. Profound found that feed offers "rely significantly more on Shopify Catalog," a direct result of Shopify's product discovery partnership with OpenAI. That makes feed-level catalog quality the highest-leverage optimization for the agentic channel: structured attributes, accurate price and inventory, clean variants and decision-ready descriptions, because that is exactly what the feed carries into the agent's ranking.
With our app you can create an Agentic Product Listing (APL) fully optimized for agents without changing your PDP content or structure. Same product, two listings: one for humans and one for agents.

My suggested operator checklist for the next 4 weeks
Q4 planning is around the corner, so start with this now:
- Open your Shopify Agentic sales channel and ensure your products are published properly.
- Install 40rty and run a full catalog audit to map any data gaps.
- Separate your PDP copy from your agent listing context. The human page stays marketing-driven. The agent listing needs decision context: who it is for, use cases, exclusions and when not to recommend it.
- Review your feed strategy. If structured feeds win first position ~99.9% of the time, find out for which intents your catalog stands out.
- Tighten policies and FAQs. Returns, shipping cutoffs, holiday exchange windows. Agents answer these in the moment of recommendation, and Q4 is when policy questions spike.

What we shipped at 40rty: AMS, launched on stage at Shopify DotDev
TL;DR: We launched the Agentic Management System (AMS) on stage at Shopify's DotDev in Toronto, in our session "The end of the one-size-fits-all storefront."
What AMS does:
- Reads shopper intent in real time, whether the visitor arrives from an AI agent, search, social or ads.
- Composes the storefront on the fly around that intent, instead of serving the same static page to everyone.
- Renders 2 layers from one catalog: a human-friendly layout for people, and a curated, decision-ready selection for agents.
- Moves brand control from "designing the page" to designing the logic that designs it: your parameters, your voice, your rules.
- Used by e-commerce leads and merchandisers who need one catalog to serve 2 very different kinds of visitors.
